Privacy Policy
TL;DR — Zero telemetry. Zero analytics. Your documents never leave your device. The only thing we ever receive is feedback you choose to send us.
01 Overview
cyberWriter ("the App") is developed by JT ("we", "us", or "our"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains our data practices for the cyberWriter applications on macOS, iOS, and iPadOS.
cyberWriter is designed with a strict "zero data collection" philosophy. The App contains no telemetry, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind.
02 Information We Collect Automatically
None. cyberWriter does not automatically collect any information from you or your device, including but not limited to:
- Personal identification information
- Usage statistics or analytics
- Crash reports or diagnostics
- Device identifiers
- Documents you create, edit, or export
- File paths or filenames
- Settings or preferences
- Browsing or file access history
03 Feedback You Choose to Send
The App includes an optional Send Feedback form. If you use it, we receive exactly what you type: your message, and — only if you choose to provide them — your name and email address so we can reply. On iOS you may also attach a screenshot, which is uploaded to our own private server (it is not publicly listed and is used solely to understand your report).
Feedback is delivered through Formspark (a form-delivery service) and our own server. We use it for exactly one purpose: reading and responding to your report. It is never sold, shared, or used for marketing. To have your feedback and any attachments deleted, email us at jt@devpadapp.com.
04 Data Storage
All data created within cyberWriter (documents, vaults, settings, recent files) is stored locally on your device, or — if you place a vault there yourself — in your own iCloud Drive or another Files location. That storage belongs to your Apple account and is governed by Apple's terms; it is never transmitted to us.
05 Document Processing
Markdown rendering, live preview, diagrams and charts all happen entirely on your device. No document content is ever sent to external servers by the App.
PDF, Word, and HTML export are performed locally using native system frameworks. Your documents are never uploaded or processed remotely.
06 AI Features (Optional, Bring-Your-Own)
cyberWriter ships with no built-in cloud AI. Nothing is ever sent to an AI service unless you configure a provider yourself and explicitly invoke it. Your choices:
- Local models (Ollama, LM Studio, MLX): requests go from the App to a server on your own machine or network and never leave it. This is why the App asks for the Local Network permission.
- Your own accounts (Claude, OpenAI-compatible endpoints, OpenRouter): requests go directly from your device to the provider you chose, under that provider's privacy policy. Your API keys are stored in the device Keychain and never sent to us.
- Apple Intelligence: runs on-device via Apple's Foundation Models.
In every case, we are never in the loop — there is no cyberWriter server between you and your model.
07 Voice Notes & Dictation
Voice recordings are saved only into your vault, on your device. Transcription runs on-device on modern systems; on older systems Apple's speech recognition service may process audio as described in Apple's privacy policy. The App itself transmits nothing.
08 Third-Party Services
The App embeds no third-party SDKs — no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, no telemetry endpoints. The only third parties that ever see data are the ones you invoke yourself: the AI provider you configure (Section 06) and the form service that delivers your feedback (Section 03).
09 App Store & Apple
cyberWriter is distributed through the Mac App Store and the iOS App Store. Apple may collect certain information as described in their privacy policy; that is independent of cyberWriter and governed by Apple's terms. cyberWriter itself does not receive any data from Apple about your usage.
10 Sandbox & Permissions
cyberWriter runs inside Apple's App Sandbox on every platform. It can only access files and folders you explicitly grant. The iOS app requests permissions only for features you use, and each one works locally:
- Microphone & Speech Recognition — voice notes and dictation (Section 07)
- Local Network — talking to your own AI server (Section 06)
- Photo Library (add only) — saving images you export
- Face ID — the optional app lock; evaluated entirely on-device by the system
11 Children's Privacy
cyberWriter collects no data automatically from anyone, including children under 13. The optional feedback form is the only way any personal information can reach us, and we delete it on request.
12 Data Security
There is almost nothing to secure on our end — by design. The only data we may hold is feedback you sent us; it travels over TLS and is kept on a private server for no purpose other than responding to you. Your local data is protected by your device's security features and the App Sandbox.
13 Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Our commitment to zero automatic data collection will not change.
14 Your Rights
Under privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, and others), you have rights over your personal data. The only personal data we could ever hold is feedback you chose to send:
- Right to Access / Deletion: email jt@devpadapp.com and we will show you or delete anything you have sent us
- Right to Portability: your documents are already yours, on your device
- Right to Opt-Out: there is no tracking to opt out of
